Cue the camera and tell the Windsor Spitfires why you’ve got what it takes to be their next in-game host.

The Spitfires are adding an element of fun to the selection process by allowing applicants to submit a 90-second video as part of their resume. “It’s the first time we’ve done this,” said Felicia Krautner, the hockey club’s community relations and game operations coordinator. “We’re looking for the next person to be the personality of the team. It’s a very fun process.”

For the past two seasons, Erika Harnish served as in-game host for OHL home games at the WFCU Centre but she recently moved to Toronto to pursue other opportunities.

“There’s no greater power than being at centre ice in front of 6,000 people and them reacting to what you say, it’s the most incredible feeling in the world,” the 25-year-old Harnish said.

Anyone wishing to submit a video resume must pay a $50 entry fee that will be donated to the Windsor Essex Cancer Centre Foundation. Upon donating, entrants will receive four tickets to a Spits’ game.

The deadline for videos is 9 p.m., Friday, July 31st. A pool of 10 finalists will be selected for a live audition at Devonshire Mall, Saturday, Aug. 15th where a panel of judges will whittle the field down to the final three. Each finalist will serve as the in-game host for a pre-season game after which the successful candidate will be determined.

Harnish, of LaSalle, oversaw on-ice contests and in-the-stands promotions using a background in English and Communications studies from the University of Windsor to ease the nerves of anxious contestants.

Windsor native Brooke Pashley worked the crowds during the club’s two Memorial Cup seasons. She went on to be an ingame host for the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2011 to 2014 and was an on-air personality for Leafs TV. Pashley recently married and moved to California.

“This is a real stepping stone for people to move on from,” Krautner said. “We’re looking for a great personality and a good sense of humour.”
