Lancers fall to 1-3 with loss to perfect Ottawa

The University of Windsor Lancers dropped a 41-18 OUA football decision to the No. 6-ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday at Alumni Field.

Windsor is now 1-3 at the midway mark of the season as Ottawa (4-0) built a 13-0 lead and never looked back.

Running back Tarrence Crawford rushed for 102 yards on 15 carries and scored on a one-yard touchdown run. Quarterbac­k Casey Wright, who threw for 204 yards, hit Jeff Masson with a threeyard scoring pass and kicker Clark Green hit both converts, added a 20-yard field goal and a single.

Fratmen continue to roll: The Windsor AKO Fratmen remained unbeaten on the season after a 44-7 OFC win over the London Beefeaters on Saturday at Lajeunesse high school.

The Fratmen (5-0) jumped to a 37-0 lead at the half against London (2-3) and the club rested most of its key starters in the second half.

Quarterbac­k Austin Lumley threw for three touchdowns. Two went to Omar Hayes-Williams, who had just two catches in the game for 101 yards, but both went for touchdowns of 45 and 56 yards. Brandon Reaume pulled in a 25yard touchdown pass.

Tyler Storie scored on a 30yard run and Jakoby Jones had a 32-yard scoring run. Adam Chin forced a fumble, picked it up and scored from a yard out while Pren Duhanaj converted all six touchdowns and the Fratmen also notched a safety.

Lancers soccer: The University of Windsor Lancers women’s soccer team remains without a loss 10 games into the season.

The Lancers improved to 6-0-4 on Sunday with a 1-0 win over the Guelph Gryphons at Alumni Field. Cassie Chretien had the lone goal for the Lancers and Krystin Lawrence posted the shutout.

On Saturday, the women’s team drew 1-1 against the No. 3-ranked York Lions. Abby Hunt scored in the 50th minute for the Lancers.

The men fell 2-1 to Guelph on Sunday with Iyowuna Jumblo scoring the lone goal for the Lancers, who got a standout effort from goalie Kyle Vizirakis in a 0-0 draw with the No. 1-ranked York Lions at Alumni Field on Saturday. It’s the first point York has conceded in eight games this season.

Lancers cross-country: Corey Bellemore won the men’s 8k race at the 42nd Western Invitation­al CrossCount­ry meet on Saturday in London. Bellemore finished the race in 24:40.7 and helped the Lancers to a third-place finish in the team standings.

Stefanie Smith led the women’s team with a sixth-place finish over the 5k course in 17:29.9 and the Lancers finished sixth overall in the team standings.

Saints extend streak: The St. Clair College Saints men’s baseball team stretched its OCAA winning streak to 41 games on Saturday with a doublehead­er sweep of George Brown College in Scarboroug­h.

The Saints took the two games 17-0 and 14-0 and are now a perfect 8-0 to start this season.

In the opener, Kyle Breitner got the win by allowing a single hit and 11 strikeouts in five innings. Roberto Duncan had two hits and drove in four runs while Kevin Dion and Matt Sykes also added two hits each.

In the second game, Miguel Cinfuegos allowed just two hits in five innings for the win. Max Ayaraz had a pair of hits and drove in three runs.

Junior C hockey: The Amherstbur­g Admirals dropped a 6-2 decision at home on Saturday to the Blenheim Blades in Bills Stobbs Division play in the Provincial Junior Hockey League.

Cory Burns had a goal and an assist for the Admirals with Michael Hatch netting the other.
