Masse top OUA swimmer

LaSalle’s Kylie Masse was named OUA female athlete of the week on Monday after another recordsett­ing performanc­e at the conference swim championsh­ips.

A third-year student at the University of Toronto, Masse swept the 50-metre, 100-metre and 200-metre backstroke events and broke her own records in the 50-metre and 200-metre backstroke.

Masse also anchored Toronto’s gold-medal winning 4,000-metre freestyle relay and 200-metre medley relay and was named OUA female swimmer of the year for the third-straight year. LaSalle’s Rachel Rode, who is a teammate of Masse’s with the Blues, was named OUA female rookie of the year.

Rode won gold in the 50-metre freestyle, 50-metre butterfly and took silver in the 50-metre backstroke and 100-metre backstroke behind Masse. Rode teamed with Masse to win gold in the 200-metre medley relay and won gold with the 200-metre freestyle relay.

Masse and Rode are products of the Windsor Essex Swim Team.

ONTARIO FOOTBALL

Essex Ravens head coach Glen Mills has been named head coach of Team Ontario for the fifth time by the Ontario Football Alliance.

University of Windsor Lancers head coach Joe D’Amore will serve as Team Ontario’s offensive coordinato­r while former Ravens quarterbac­k Kyle Quinlan, who is now an assistant coach at McMaster University, will serve as an offensive assistant.

“I am very excited to work with this staff,” Mills said in a news release.

“I think the new additions will bring some new energy to this group. I believe the group will have the team well prepared to compete for a national championsh­ip.”

PATTILLO HONOURED

Windsor Express forward Juan Pattillo was named NBL of Canada player of the week for the Central Division on Monday.

The 28-year-old Pattillo led the Express to three straight wins last week while averaging 15.3 points per game, 9.3 rebounds per game and 3.6 assists per game.

NGUYEN ADVANCES

St. Clair College Saints freshman Christina Nguyen will be at Georgian College in Barrie on Friday for the OCAA provincial badminton championsh­ips.

Nguyen advanced with a bronzemeda­l performanc­e at the West Regional as she went 3-2 in pool play.
