STANLEY CUP BY THE NUMBERS

- Scott Stinson

103.2

The PDO of the Nashville Predators during the playoffs, best of the 16 teams. The statistic combines a team’s save percentage at 5-on-5 and their shooting percentage in the same situation. A PDO of 100 is about average, and Nashville’s playoff number is better than any team had during the regular season. Regression is possible, or Pekka Rinne could keep standing on his head.

46.95

Pittsburgh’s shot-attempt percentage in the playoffs this season. The Penguins had a 51.5 number — also called their Corsi percentage — during their Cup run last year, and no Stanley Cup champion over the past five seasons has had a shot-attempt percentage below 51.4. Of the 96 teams to play in the post-season over this and the previous five years, Pittsburgh’s 46.95 per cent Corsi puts them at 76th.

25

Pittsburgh’s power play percentage in the playoffs, which helps explain why the Pens are still alive despite having been significantly outshot at 5-on-5. Pittsburgh has 14 power-play goals in the playoffs. Nashville has scored seven power-play goals in the playoffs. Note to Predators: stay out of the box.
