Syles Mechanical: In the news

-

Syles Mechanical Services Ltd. has made its impact on the Windsor area over the last five decades. In the new century alone, the company has left its mark. Here is a look at some moments when Syles made the news: 2003 After a suspected tornado blew through the area on May 1, 2003, uprooting trees, bending poles and damaging roofs in parts of Tecumseh, Syles was on the scene. A mammoth air-conditioning and heating unit on the roof of what used to be Danilo’s Restaurant on County Road 42 was blown off and flung to the ground. The 1,200-pound piece of machinery measured four feet wide and eight feet high. “It looks like someone used a crowbar to rip out the eavestrough,” one neighbour told the Windsor Star. A photo of Rob Letourneau of Syles Mechanical surveying the unit accompanied the story. 2004 When the Better Business Bureau (BBB) was handing out its 2004 Integrity in Business Awards on Oct. 28, 2004, Syles Mechanical Services Ltd. was among the businesses whose owners and staff were in attendance. The Integrity in Business Awards has been presented annually since 1998 to companies that demonstrate best practices in leadership character and high standards of organizational ethics that benefit customers, employees, suppliers, shareholders and communities. Syles, a member of the BBB since 2014, holds an A+ rating. 2005 Syles was honoured with a nomination for the 2006 Business Excellence Awards in October 2005. The company was among 40 businesses and individuals nominated in seven categories. The nominees were announced at the Art Gallery of Windsor on Oct. 12, 2005. The Business Excellence Awards are held annually by the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce. 2006 The Windsor Spitfires – Mastercard Memorial Cup champions this year who also captured the country’s top prize in junior hockey in 2009 and 2010 – have proven themselves winners in the past 10 years. From the ownership group on down. Their success certainly wouldn’t come as a surprise to Sylvio Lesperance. The owner of Syles Mechanical has known Warren Rychel and Pete Dobrich, who took over ownership of the Junior A hockey franchise in 2006 along with Bob Boughner, since they were kids. In a Windsor Star story about the new owners, he had this to say: “The value of the team, whether it’s less or more, like any business, is determined by what you do with it after you own it,” he said. “There are no quitters in this group. Having young owners, with the energy and connections to carry out their plan, it is going to be a big boost to the city.” 2007 Local students who play golf got a big boost and help with their game late in the year when sponsors including Syles Mechanical stepped up to help sponsor Callaway Golf in Schools program. Syles was one of seven sponsors who paid $1,500 each for the program, which was offered in conjunction with the Windsor & District Junior Golf Academy. The other sponsors were: Rosati Group, Circle of Seven, Mio Manz Charities, National Bank of Canada, National Bank Financial and Motor City Credit Union. 2012 Syles Mechanical Services entered into a partnership with Direct Energy in September 2012 to offer rental and leasing solutions for customers seeking hot water, heating, cooling and ventilation solutions. The agreement includes rental and installation of rooftop units, storage tanks, boilers and water heaters for residential and commercial customers.
