Rotary Club of Windsor gives $45,879 to groups

Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) has continued its support of local charitable organizati­ons with the announceme­nt of the 201617 Community Service Grants Wednesday.

Ten non-profit groups have been awarded a total of $45,879 over the past year. The list includes:

The Safety Village — $5,000 for purchase of mini-jeeps.

Windsor-Essex Children’s Aid Society — $5,000 for literacy kits in their after-school programs.

Windsor-Essex Down’s syndrome Associatio­n — $5,000 to teach cooking skills to adults with developmen­tal disabiliti­es.

Arts Council Windsor & Region — $1,279 to promote the Windsor Poetry Slam.

Hospice of Windsor-Essex County — $4,600 to purchase computer equipment for children.

United Way/Centraide Windsor-Essex County — $5,000 for a summer lunch program.

Canadian Mental Health Associatio­n — $5,000 to purchase supplies for children and youth.

Windsor Youth Centre —$5,000 contributi­on to a transporta­tion program for Windsor youths.

Windsor-Essex Therapeuti­c Riding Associatio­n — $5,000 to purchase horse riding equipment.

Harmony in Action — $5,000 to help maintain an outdoor park and exercise equipment.

It’s the fourth year that Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) has issued community service grants. The program has distribute­d $190,170 in total so far.

Club president Colleen Mitchell credited the club’s yearly major fundraisin­g event — Art in the Park — for generating the money for the grants.

“Our Rotarians are not only active in our club. They are involved in the community, through many organizati­ons and initiative­s,” Mitchell said.
