Canada aiding U.S. imperialism

-

I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised by a Liberal government that, in April 2015, engaged in a gem of hairsplitting, parsing, wilful blindness and justification for selling billions worth of fighting vehicles and weaponry to Saudi Arabia, one of the most oppressive regimes on earth, and is now announcing massive military spending increases and reaffirming its commitment to U.S. imperialism.

What might Canada’s commitment to U.S. imperialism mean?

Well, for any who haven’t been paying attention, warmonger Donald Trump signed a series of arms deals with Saudi Arabia totalling $110 billion during a visit to the Saudi capital.

Because of the ongoing U.S.backed, Saudi-led bombing campaign and naval blockade against Yemen, that country’s health, sanitation and water systems have been devastated.

The World Health Organization reports that the number of suspected cholera cases in Yemen has reached 101,820 and continues to rise, accounting for 859 deaths.

As for Canada’s 2015 arms deal, the Saudi killing of civilians in Yemen at that time was apparently OK with then Liberal Foreign Affairs minister Stephane Dion as long as no evidence turned up that they used any armoured vehicles built in Canada.

That’s quite some moral compass the Liberals use.

Note that the Liberals have already expanded Canada’s participation in U.S. military adventures in the Middle East.

One must ask, are there any conceivable circumstances under which Canada might be further enticed to become either a silent or active partner in the U.S.-backed, Saudi-led killing machine in Yemen?
