HABITAT CELEBRATES MILESTONE

Windsor ReStore exceeds $1M in sales

Habitat for Humanity has exceeded $1 million in gross sales at its Windsor resale store.

The sales milestone was reached at Habitat’s ReStore on Devon Drive, which sells donated household fixtures and building materials, including appliances, kitchens, home furnishings, furniture, plumbing, electrical and flooring supplies and a variety of other goods.

“Without our ReStores, building homes would not be possible,” said Fiona Coughlin, executive director of Habitat for Humanity WindsorEssex.

“The operation of the ReStores also means that 100 per cent of donated funds go directly toward building homes in our community.”

Charitable tax receipts are issued for donated goods with a resale value of $60 or more.

To celebrate the milestone, Habitat for Humanity is sharing 16,000 boxes of cake mix with local food support programs, including the Downtown Mission, the Goodfellows and the Unemployed Help Centre

Cake mixes are also being offered to schools, churches and community organizations for charity bake sales and the non-profit organization’s supporters, families, volunteers and donors.

“Baking together as a family, in a kitchen of their own, is a luxury many in our community only dream of,” Coughlin said.

“Through Habitat for Humanity, home ownership has been made a reality for 62 families in WindsorEssex.”

Pick up a free cake mix at the Windsor ReStore, 3064 Devon Dr., or at the Leamington office, 1 Iroquois, Unit 2.

Habitat for Humanity’s building model allows families to help build their own homes and purchase them through a zero interest, zero down payment, geared to income mortgage.
