Immigrants make Canada better place

-

Over the past two years, Canada has taken in 320,932 immigrants. Our government intends to raise that number to one million in the next three years.

Where are all of these immigrants coming from? What are their reasons for immigrating into Canada?

If you really think about it, everyone is pro-immigration. Most of the population is an immigrant or is a relative of someone who is or was. When it comes down to the policies about immigration, that is when opinions start to differ.

When raising the number of immigrants allowed in, Canada’s government should take the time to consider, not only the people who need our help, but also people who will contribute to our society.

This includes people from different countries, different religions and different races, people who are looking to start a better life, and people who are looking for job opportunities.

Canada’s government should follow the guidelines for intercepting new immigrants based on precedent, created and used by our previous governments. For example, there should be equal percentages from various religions, nationalities, races, genders, origins and educational skills.

With this type of acceptance, Canada will show the world that it opens its borders, to not only the needy, but to the people who don’t have the opportunities in their countries of birth or origin to reach their individual potentials.

I cannot stress enough the importance of Canada not losing its way of implementing and using the factors of fairness and consideration towards every race and religion when deciding who we accept as immigrants in the present and future. Teodora Taleski, Lakeshore
