A Windsor-based firm has been named one of Canada’s best managed companies in an annual ranking by the Deloitte accounting firm.

This is the first time that Electrozad Supply Company, an electrical products supplier, has made the prestigious list.

“It’s good to be recognized,” said James Taylor, Electrozad’s director of sales and business development. “We have a long-standing history of being in business, over 60 years, so this really recognized not only what we accomplished in the past but what we’re focused on moving forward. We’re making a lot of investments to make sure that we’re aligned with the next generation of customer and the changing dynamic in our industry.” Since 1993, Canada’s Best Managed Companies has recognized the “innovative, world-class business practices” of Canadianowned and managed companies with more than $15 million in revenue.

Hundreds of companies compete for the designation every year through a rigorous application process. For 2018, 44 winners were chosen by a panel of judges from the finance, business and banking industries.

The winners will be honoured April 11 at a gala in Toronto. “Best Managed winners should be extremely proud of their accomplishments,” said Lorrie King, coleader of Canada’s Best Managed Companies program at Deloitte. “The marketplace is changing rapidly, and this incredible class of companies’ commitment and entrepreneurial leadership help drive business success that is critical for the health of our economy.” Electrozad was recognized for “overall business performance and sustained growth,” thanks to initiatives including investing for future expansion and employee development.

With 125 employees, Electrozad is the largest independently owned electrical distributor in Southwestern Ontario. It has two facilities in London, one each in Chatham and Sarnia, and a headquarters in Windsor.

The company supplies electrical and automation products to industrial and manufacturing customers such as the Windsor Assembly Plant, Valiant, CentreLine, and various construction contractors. Taylor said the recent recognition will help Electrozad as it tries to expand and bring in more business.

“It helps from a credibility standpoint with our customers as we try and attract new customers,” he said.

“It’s something that obviously labels the type of company that Electrozad is. We feel it will help as we try and grow our business as we move forward, even potentially as we look at new markets and new locations.”
