Suspect in armed robbery identified, arrested

Windsor police are crediting community teamwork for the identifica­tion and arrest of a suspect in the gunpoint robbery of a convenienc­e store on Kildare Road. Investigat­ors received informatio­n from the public soon after police released security camera images of the incident, which took place in the 1500 block of Kildare Road on the morning of Feb. 25. The store’s video camera recorded a masked male in a checkered jacket brandishin­g a handgun and pointing it at an employee. Through the tips received, police were able to put a name to the suspect.

The suspect was next seen on Wednesday as the passenger in a vehicle.

Members of the Windsor police tactical team stopped the vehicle in the 1500 block of Crawford Avenue.

A search of the vehicle uncov- ered a loaded rifle.

The passenger was arrested as the suspect in the Feb. 25 robbery and the male driver was arrested in relation to the firearm. Police then obtained a search warrant for a residence in the 1600 block of Polonia Park Place. The search resulted in the discovery of clothing that matched what the robber was wearing in the security video images, as well as a black handgun-style pellet gun believed to have been used in the robbery. Kamil Stoj, 27, of Windsor, has been charged with robbery, pointing a firearm and numerous firearm-related offences.

Adam Florczuk, 22, the driver of the vehicle stopped on Wednesday, faces numerous firearm-related charges due to the seized rifle. Windsor police thanked the media and the public at large for their contributi­ons that culminated in an arrest and charges in the case.
