Caboto Club Boycott Is Hypocritical
The Giovanni Caboto Club is a long-standing, not-for profit organization with deep roots in this community since 1925. It is a gathering place that has allowed people to come together for many reasons. It has given back to the community financially, and through in-kind donations, sponsorship and support. Its constitution may be outdated and in need of revision, but that should be decided by the membership. I hope that every person and organization that is demanding their board or group sever ties with the club look at the rest of clubs and organiza- tions across Essex County and this country and demand the same. Clubs that only allow women to tee off at certain times, for instance. Clubs that only allow men to join and don’t even have auxiliary groups for the women who would like to join. Clubs that consider financial status for membership and clubs that only allow women to join. Interestingly enough, these clubs are all over Windsor and Essex County. Why doesn’t this bullying boycott include the rest of these clubs and organizations? Before putting this club through what I believe to be a form of harassment, did anyone consult the Women’s Auxiliary, the actual female members of the club? I hope these uneducated demands and threats extend to all clubs and organizations with any type of exclusivity regarding membership, just to be fair to everyone.
