Vote on June 7 and make a difference

- Peter J. Middlemore Sr., Windsor

We’ve seen Liberal leadership over the last 15 years, triple Ontario’s debt to $336 billion, incurring $12 billion in interest payments yearly. Ontarians have seen the $1.1 billion gas plant scandal, the $1 billion eHealth boondoggle and the Ornge (Ontario’s air ambulance) investigation, while Liberals have sold 60 per cent of Hydro One for approximately $9 billion.

The first provincial election debate between PC Leader Doug Ford, NDP Leader Andrea Horwath, and Premier Kathleen Wynne on May 7 gave Ontarians a look at their platforms.

Ford wants to reduce wait lines in hospitals, put money back in our pockets, clean up the Hydro One mess, reduce corporate taxes, and create a government for the people, bringing back accountability, transparency and integrity. Horwath wants voters to imagine a province where everyone can afford prescription drugs, get dental work done, pay less for hydro, and young families can afford a home and daycare, while not forgetting about a senior care system.

Wynne wants Ontarians to look at what has been done, look at what they are building and continue to build. She mentioned it’s all about caring and insuring the needs of the people.

Ontario is the most indebted sub-sovereign jurisdiction in the world, but no political party has the appetite for any type of moratorium on spending. It’s just the opposite.

Ontario has lost hundreds of thousands of lost jobs. Costs have gone up for hydro, gasoline, natural gas, license tags and government services. Some manufacturers doing business in Ontario are re-evaluating their futures. Almost 50 per cent of eligible voters didn’t vote in Ontario’s last election. The Liberal’s spending of those billions of dollars on infrastructures in the Toronto region is a smart political move, because opposition parties need to win over a majority of the seats in the suburban belt around Toronto.

Please vote on June 7.
