The motorcyclist who was fatally injured in a collision with a car on County Road 8 was a 48-year-old Leamington man, say Amherstburg police. The incident remains under investigation and witnesses are still being sought, but police extended thanks to drivers in the area who stopped and tried to save the motorcyclist’s life on Monday afternoon. “Your efforts were heroic,” wrote community services officer Const. Steven Owen of Amherstburg police. Police have yet to release full details of what happened at the intersection of County Road 8 (also known as North Townline Road) and Concession Road 6 (also known as Broderick Road). What’s known is that a collision occurred around 2 p.m. between a red 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle and a silver 2009 Toyota Corolla, driven by a female from Amherstburg. Police and firefighters from both Amherstburg and LaSalle responded, as well as Essex-Windsor EMS and OPP. They arrived to find members of the public already tending to the fallen motorcycle rider. The man was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Star has learned that the deceased is Alan Crawford of Leamington, a husband and a father. The driver of the Toyota wasn’t hurt. Anyone with further information about this incident is encouraged to call Amherstburg police at 519-736-3622. Anonymous tips can be shared via Crime Stoppers at 519-258-8477 or www. catchcrooks.com. Asked if charges are pending, Const. Owen said it’s possible.
