Off-duty Windsor police officer charged with assault, drunk driving
An off-duty Windsor police officer has been charged with impaired driving and four counts of assault following an early-morning incident in the city’s east end. Officers responded to a reported assault around 12:35 a.m. Saturday in the area of Greenpark Boulevard and Wyandotte Street East. Police determined that a number of drivers in various vehicles pulled over and got out. An altercation ensued. It turned out that an off-duty Windsor police officer reportedly assaulted several people. The off-duty officer was arrested without incident and charged with impaired driving, exceeding the legal blood-alcohol limit, and four counts of assault.
The officer, a Windsor Police constable with 20 years’ seniority, has been suspended from duty and was released on a promise to appear with a future court date. Police have not released the officer’s name.
