Salinitri headed to Generals
Windsor’s Anthony Salinitri was traded by the Sarnia Sting on Wednesday to the Oshawa Generals for three Ontario Hockey League Draft picks.
In return for the overage forward, the Sting acquired Sudbury ’s second-round pick in 2019, Hamilton’s second-round pick in 2022 and Owen Sound’s fourth-round pick in 2020 from the Generals. “I am very excited,” Salinitri said after the deal was announced. “It’s a bittersweet moment. It’s a big change, I’m looking forward to having a new start with such a great organization, but it’s hard to leave behind so many memories here (in Sarnia).
“I am grateful for my time here and all the support and respect I was treated with. Looking forward to a long playoff run with Oshawa.” The 20-year Salinitri was the ALLIANCE player of the year in 2014 with the Windsor Zone AAA minor midgets and was selected in the first round of the OHL Draft by the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
He was dealt to Sarnia midway through his first season and has compiled 94 goals and 193 points in 270 career OHL games. “We’re excited to get a player of the calibre of Anthony on our team,” Oshawa general manager Roger Hunt said in a release. Salinitri was a sixth-round NHL draft pick by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2016, but did not sign. He is expected to be in the lineup for Oshawa on Friday and will face the Spitfires in Oshawa on Sunday.
