House fire treated as sus­pi­cious

A fire that gut­ted a home in the city’s west end ear­lier this week is be­ing treated as sus­pi­cious. Po­lice have dis­closed no de­tails about why — only stat­ing that their sus­pi­cions were reached “through in­ves­ti­ga­tion.” The blaze oc­curred at 3311 Peter St. dur­ing the early hours of Dec. 5. Wind­sor po­lice and fire­fight­ers re­sponded around 2 a.m. to re­ports of smoke and flames at the small home. They ar­rived to find the fire in progress. It took less than half an hour to bring the fire un­der control. No one was hurt. The house was un­oc­cu­pied at the time, as it has been un­der ren­o­va­tion. Fire in­ves­ti­ga­tors be­lieve the flames started in the home’s front fam­ily room. Dam­age has been es­ti­mated at $175,000 for the struc­ture and $25,000 for the con­tents.
