A female motorist was taken into custody after she ran from a vehicle that had been driven off the roadway and into a field in the 6000 block of Howard Avenue on Friday afternoon. Witnesses said the incident happened around 1:30 p.m., when the white crossover SUV was seen moving erratically on Howard Avenue, endangering several other vehicles as it attempted to pass traffic.

According to a resident on Concession Road 7, the white vehicle left the road, went over a ditch and plowed through a line of trees — then proceeded for a few hundred metres through a farmer’s field. “The car kept going,” said Scott Barrie.

“I live around the corner there. I was working in my yard, and I heard it, and I saw car parts flying everywhere.”

After the vehicle stopped, an occupant was seen exiting and fleeing on foot.

She was later located by Ontario Provincial Police officers on a property on South Talbot Road, nearly a kilometre away from the abandoned vehicle. Damage was visible to the SUV’s rear end, and a tree branch remained stuck to its front. OPP have not said if charges are pending.
