Shires to lead new super trio

Country stars Brandi Carlile and Margo Price have formed a new super trio with Amanda Shires. The members of The Highwomen, who will record a debut album in March, came together in Nashville, Tenn., after Shires pitched the idea to Carlile at a concert. The pair then invited Price to join. The trio has country, Americana and folk roots, but Shires insists The Highwomen — a tonguein-cheek reference to Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson’s 1980s supergroup The Highwaymen — will be all country.
