FIREFIGHTER HURT IN CHATHAM BLAZE

-

A couch on fire had turned into a fully engulfed house fire when Chatham firefighters arrived at a Colborne Street home Sunday, which caused a firefighter to suffer minor injuries. “The crews arrived to find the front of the house engulfed in flames with no indication that everyone was out,” operations Chief Chris Case said in a statement, noting additional firefighters were called to assist. “We had excellent support from our colleagues from police, who assisted us in locating the occupiers, and from our EMS teams who were on scene and treated our team member who sustained slight injuries.” The injured firefighter was transported to hospital by paramedics. He was released after treatment. Three hand lines and a water tower were needed to contain the blaze, which produced a large amount of smoke and flames, the operations chief said. The fire caused about $100,000 damage, leaving the home with one side of the roof caved in. The cause of the blaze is still undetermined.
