10 sweaters to wrap up in this winter

- ALEESHA HARRIS aharris@postmedia.com

The holiday gifting season likely saw a couple gift cards sent your way. So, we thought you might like a little help spending them. A stylish knit is always a safe bet during the cold-weather season — especially when you call Canada home.

We asked Verna Ursua Brown, director of product for Aritzia, if there can ever be too many sweaters in one’s closet. “Definitely not,” she says. “Particularly living here in Canada, we have plenty of time — and cold weather — to experiment with a range of sweaters.”

So why not add something warm to your sartorial collection? It’s sure to be a worthwhile purchase, especially if you’re able to invest in a material that’s going to last.

“The most important thing to consider is fabric,” Ursua Brown advises. “Sweaters made from high-quality materials like wool and cashmere blends have greater longevity. We make many of our sweaters from fine Merino wools and premium Italian yarns to ensure that they last.” When you’re poised to pay a bit more for a knit piece, Ursua Brown says it’s also important to consider the cut of the sweater, because you’re going to want the style to stick around for quite a while.

“Think about the style of investment pieces,” she says. “Anything too trend-driven may feel dated by next winter. Timeless, classic fits are a safer bet.”

And, to help get you started on your sweater search, we’ve rounded up 10 fashionable finds to pick up this winter.
