The Ambassador Bridge will reduce tolls for regular commuters starting in a couple of weeks. Current tolls for registered commuters will be reduced to US$2.60 per trip from the current US$4 (or C$4.60).

To achieve the savings, drivers need to be a members of the Ambassador Bridge Premier Commuter Card program. Current card holders are automatically enrolled for the new savings, while new members must pre-pay US$150 by credit card. The toll changes on the bridge for commuters will take effect starting Feb. 18. “The bridge will open a third lane for commuters from Canada to the U.S. every weekday morning from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and a third lane for commuters from the U.S. to Canada every weekday afternoon from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.,” bridge president Dan Stamper said. New commuters can stop at the Ammex Duty Free Store on the U.S. side of the bridge to register for the program.

Following the Ambassador Bridge toll announcement, officials from the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority indicated its toll rate structure for the Gordie Howe International Bridge will not be established until close to completion of the new crossing in late 2024. “Toll rates will not be established until closer to completion to allow us to align them with the current market at the time of opening,” said Mark Butler, bridge authority spokesman. “Prior to establishing toll rates, WDBA will undertake an extensive consultation program with key stakeholders, including future users.”
