Students facing shuffle during law school renos
Most to be housed elsewhere at U of W but some classes will head downtown
The law school at the University of Windsor has announced its temporary relocation plans in preparation for the renovation of its Ron Ianni Faculty of Law building, which will get underway next summer.
There are nearly 800 law students at the university who will be shifted and spread to several other campus locations until the law building ’s two-year rehabilitation project is completed sometime in the summer of 2022.
Windsor Law Dean Christopher Waters announced students will be relocated in “law clusters” with the bulk of classes remaining on the main campus, aside from a few classes scheduled at the university’s downtown campus.
“While this kind of dislocation is never easy, the result will make us all proud,” Waters said.
“Meanwhile, please be assured that the administrative team, faculty, staff and student government will work together to ensure that student needs are met throughout the process and that we maintain our strong sense of community,” he added.
Among buildings where the law students will be shifted over the next two years include Odette School of Business, Toldo Health and Education Centre, and Neal Education Building.
A law student hub, composed of an informal lounge and meeting space, will be located in the CAW Student Centre.
Faculty and administrative staff will be located in Vanier Hall’s Winclare room, while the deans’ offices will be located in Lambton Tower.
The Law Library will be located in the Leddy Library.
Final plans for the Ianni building renovation project are still subject to board approval, which is anticipated in January.
Renovation of the existing building was the university’s preference after much deliberation and consideration that the school’s law students might move downtown into the vacant Paul Martin building at 185 Ouellette Ave.
