NBA DEAL FOR MULDER

Warriors sign local player

Tecumseh’s Mychal Mulder turned a 10-day audition with the NBA’S Golden State Warriors into a potential long-term stay.

The Warriors announced on Tuesday the club has signed the 25-year-old Mulder to a multiyear contract. No terms were released.

Mulder’s 10-day contract with the Warriors expired after Saturday’s game, which saw him score a career-high 18 points against the Philadelphia 76ers in his second career start.

He sat out Sunday’s practice for salary cap reasons and the team was off Monday, but club officials seemed to indicate he would be given a second 10-day contract. After that the club would have had to decide whether to sign him for the rest of the NBA season.

A six-foot-four, 185-pound shooting guard, Mulder showed enough to earn the contract.

In six games with the Warriors, which included two starts, Mulder averaged 12.3 points per game, 3.2 rebounds per game and 1.3 assists per game while averaging 29.5 minutes of playing time.

A Catholic Central high school grad, Mulder worked his way from a two-year junior college stay in Indiana into a scholarship at the University of Kentucky.

He was a first-round pick in the NBA G League by the Windy City Bulls in 2017. After two seasons, he signed a camp deal with the NBA’S Miami Heat last summer, but ended up with the team’s G League Sioux Falls Skyforce squad where he was averaging 17 points a game when the Warriors first signed him.
