Threat from COVID-19 takes its toll on many area events
The Detroit Institute of Arts closed its doors to the public at 4 p.m. Friday and will remain closed through April 5.
St. Clair College is cancelling in-person classes, moving to online classes starting March 23 following March Break and running through to April 17. Student labs in areas such as Skilled Trades will continue to operate.

The college has also cancelled its Scholarship Awards ceremonies set for March 26 and March 30.
The Windsor Symphony Orchestra has cancelled all events through March 31, including programming presented by the Youth Orchestras, Community Orchestra, Chorus and the Neighbourhood Concert Series at on-site and off-site locations.
The WSO will still perform Saturday night’s Tepperman Masterworks Sibelius & Marimba performance, but without a live audience in the theatre. The concert will be live streamed through Facebook. To watch, go to the WSO’S Facebook page on Saturday. The live stream begins at 7:15 p.m.
The University of Windsor has suspended all work-related and university-sponsored travel to China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Iran, Japan, Italy, Singapore, South Korea and Spain until further notice. This includes research placements, field courses, conference travel, or any other travel that has been previously approved.
The Windsor Licensing Commission meeting originally scheduled for March 25 has been rescheduled to April 22 at 9:30 a.m. in room 204 at 350 City Hall Square West.
Starting on Monday, Hotel-dieu Grace Healthcare is cancelling all of the following outpatient programs for the foreseeable future: acquired brain injury, cardiac wellness, bariatric clinic, outpatient rehab, geriatric assessment, pulmonary rehab, rehab outreach, geriatric mental health outreach, physiatry, WPEP, wood and anxiety, concurrent disorder, dual diagnosis, problem gambling and digital dependency, addiction assessment and referral, Regional Children’s Centre (residential), Rcc-glengarda (outpatient services) and volunteer services.
The Windsor Public Library has suspended all programming and outreach activities, use of meeting rooms and library programs and the bookmobile.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority has cancelled its March Break events including Maple Moon and Maple March Break.
All Greater Essex County District School Board schools, administrative buildings and facilities will be closed until Apr. 5. Childcare services provided at schools will be closed during this time and all rental contracts, after-school programs and community use of schools are cancelled. Home study and educational resources for students will be posted on the board website, publicboard.ca. Students in co-op programs will not be reporting to their placements.
The Windsor-essex Catholic District School Board has closed all of its daycares from March 14 to April 5. The board’s administrative offices and the Catholic Education Centre will be closed.
The Catholic school board is suspending community use of schools, including March Break camps while cancelling all sports academies, international trips and field trips. OFSAA Hockey Championships have been cancelled. The March Break Family Skating Party has been cancelled.
