Tecumseh rec programs postponed
The Essex Regional Conservation Authority continues to offer essential services but has cancelled programming until June 1, while the Town of Tecumseh has shut down its recreational programs until June 30 because of COVID-19.
ERCA is still providing flood monitoring, permit processing, planning and other regulatory responsibilities but all public and private school programs, festivals and events and workshops are cancelled.
Seasonal camping is set to open May 19 at Holiday Beach Conservation Area in Amherstburg, along with the park’s rental cottage. Roads into Holiday Beach are still closed to vehicles but visitors can park outside the gates and walk in the park as long as social distancing is maintained.
Outdoor conservation areas and trails are open from dawn to dusk for passive use, except for Hillman Marsh and Kopegaron Woods in Leamington, which are closed until May 31. Washroom facilities are closed at all conservation areas.
The John R. Park Homestead museum, visitor centre and gift shop remain closed.
Applications for permits can be made online at essexregionconservation.ca. For other inquires, call 519-776-5209.
Tecumseh has postponed the opening of public recreational swims and lessons and cancelled Lakewood Park summer concerts through June.
“Today’s decision is a result of the ongoing provincial orders aimed at reducing exposure to COVID-19 in the community,” said Tecumseh Mayor Gary Mcnamara. “We continue to have to make decisions around public recreation and I am hopeful everyone understands and supports these decisions.”
All Tecumseh park equipment and play structures remain closed.
