Leamington’s marina gets rebranded as Lakeside Marina
Leamington’s municipal marina will now be called Lakeside Marina after a partnership was struck between the town and the local agricultural company.
“The community of Leamington has given so much to my family for many generations that we are proud to give back to the community,” Chris Cervini, president and CEO of Lakeside Produce, said in a news release. “We also understand the importance of these community facilities that help bring families together.
“It is the same family approach we have adopted at Lakeside that has helped us grow into who we are today.”
Kelly Sfetkidis, manager of communications and public relations for the municipality, refused to disclose how much Lakeside Produce paid for the naming rights. She instead told the Star to submit a request along with a $5 payment, under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, a process that can often take months.
In a subsequent email the municipality said it has secured more than $2 million in sponsorships from local companies. “These sponsorship dollars will be used by the municipality to maintain and upgrade facilities,” the statement said.
Lakeside Marina is a deepwater, 292-slip marina on Lake Erie, offering docks accommodating any vessel, from personal watercraft to boats over 75 feet long. It’s protected by an outer breakwall. The floating pier system is set up with access to municipal water hookups, electricity and Wi-fi.
A nearby paved public walk will now be called Lakeside promenade.
“The municipality is pleased to have the opportunity to partner with Lakeside Produce to rename our waterfront jewel,” said Mayor
Hilda Macdonald. “We look forward to working with Lakeside Produce to enhance our marina and promenade for the enjoyment of Leamington residents and visitors.”
Lakeside Produce has greenhouse facilities in Leamington and Mills River, N.C., distribution facilities in Leamington, Taylor, Mich., and Edinburgh, Tex., and partners with growers in Ontario and Mexico to deliver fresh produce across North America.
