Wrong location for streetcar

-

I recently filled out the online survey regarding the proposed Celestial Beacon that includes the streetcar display pavilion planned for the west end of the waterfront park system.

I noticed the survey had no place where I could disagree with the location being proposed. I guess it was a foregone conclusion and that we had no say as to the location of these structures?

We live on Riverside Drive right across the street from where this project is planned and from what I have seen of the drawings, our view of the Detroit River will definitely be impeded.

When the extensive waterfront park system was first developed, it was stated there would be no structures built that would destroy the view for residents and those travelling on Riverside Drive.

What I am seeing in the proposal is definitely above grade.

In my opinion, this Celestial Beacon could be constructed at the beginning of the park near the Ambassador Bridge (west of Vista), across from Atkinson Park or west of Campbell (across from the park).

Why put it where houses are located? We bought this property to enjoy the view, not to have the backside of a building facing us.

I don’t believe an expensive historical display, such as the restored streetcar, should be placed down at the riverfront in such a large, view-impeding building. It is definitely out of scale for the proposed site. Lack of parking for the park is yet another issue.

For many reasons, the spot considered for this project just doesn’t work.
