Police arrest suspect following two home invasions, sexual assault

- DALSON CHEN

Windsor police have arrested and charged a man after residents at two different addresses reported frightening encounters with an early morning intruder on Thursday.

The first report came around 2:30 a.m. from a home in the 1000 block of Parent Avenue. A woman at the address told police she woke up to find that she was being inappropriately touched by a man she didn't know.

The suspect immediately fled the residence when the adult female complainant said she awakened.

The woman was able to provide responding officers with a detailed description of the suspect.

About three or four hours later, around 6 a.m., patrol officers responded to a report of a break-in at a home in the 700 block of Elliott Street East.

A resident at the address told police about being awakened by a noise — and then realizing there was a strange man in the home.

Again, the suspect fled with the complainant yelling at him.

Forensic officers attended and collected evidence from both scenes.

Members of the major crime branch investigated and identified an individual they believe to be the suspect in both incidents.

A suspect was located and taken into custody around 5:25 p.m. Thursday.

A warrant was obtained to search a residence in the 900 block of Marentette Avenue, where police found items believed to be related to the break-ins.

Faton Miftari, 36, of Windsor, faces charges of sexual assault, breaking and entering, breaking and entering with the intent to commit an indictable offence and failure to comply with a release order (two counts).

Windsor police said their investigation continues. Anyone in the neighbourhoods of the two incidents is asked to review surveillance camera recordings for images of suspicious persons or activity during the early morning hours of Thursday.

Miftari was previously arrested and charged by Windsor police in October. He was accused of harassing a female driver by following her in a vehicle.
