CHOOSE LOCAL: WINDSOR CHAPEL IN THE COMMUNITY
Windsor’s only local, family-owned funeral service provider continues to set the standard of excellence, growth and dedication
For us, community is everything. My family and my team live in this community, work in this community, play in this community and as a business, we want to continually invest and give back to Windsor-essex.

117 years is a legacy that very few family-owned businesses ever reach. Windsor Chapel; however, is unlike most businesses in our community.
Established in 1904, Windsor Chapel is now in its fifth generation of family ownership and has set the standard of service excellence and community involvement over five generations. Never satisfied to simply rest on the laurels of its rich history within our community, Windsor Chapel continues to look to the future, advancing its vision of growth, development, and community partnership.
“The advantage to being local and family-owned is that our entire focus is on families and our community” says Philip Janisse, fifth-generation owner. “There is no board of directors or shareholders to answer to, only our client families and our community. We reinvest into Windsor Essex and truly value partnership.”
One of Windsor Chapel's most enduring partnerships is with the Hospice of Windsor and Essex County.
“Windsor Chapel has been a longstanding member of our community, and a longtime friend to our Hospice. We are so grateful for their continued partnership and support, as well as their commitment to the families of Windsor-essex,” says Colleen Reaume, executive director, The Hospice of Windsor and Essex County.
“For us, community is everything ” says Janisse, “My family and my team live in this community, work in this community, play in this community and as a business, we want to continually invest and give back to Windsor-essex.”
The funeral service industry has changed greatly over the years within the region. Many longstanding family or independently owned operators have chosen to sell their funeral homes to corporations. Today, Windsor Chapel remains the only local family-owned funeral home serving the community in Windsor.
“As owners, my cousin and I are directly involved in the day-to-day operations of our funeral homes” says Leon Janisse, fifth-generation owner. “We are able to connect with our community and the families we serve on a very personal level. We empower our amazing team to keep the focus on service excellence and working uniquely with each family to meet their needs and exceed their expectations.”
Serving more than 800 Windsor Essex families each year at its three locations, Windsor Chapel continues to set a standard of growth and community development. “We're not going anywhere,” says Janisse. “We're proud of the family legacy of Windsor Chapel and will continue to champion the vision of service excellence into the family's next generation.”
The team at Windsor Chapel values and stresses the partnership it has built with the Windsor-essex community.
“Windsor is a very diverse city, and we work uniquely with each community and individual family,” says Scott Lockwood, team member at Windsor Chapel. Whether

through honouring and respecting faith and liturgy or designing personalized celebrations of life, the team at Windsor Chapel helps families discover the most meaningful and fitting ways to honour their loved ones.
This is what 117 years of a family-focused care standard brings to each and every family. “One of the great benefits of working for a family-owned funeral home is the ability to truly connect with our community,” Lockwood says. “We build lasting relationships and are thoroughly invested in this community. It's our family helping your family during the most significant life transition – the loss of a loved one.”
When a loved one passes away, there can be a lot of questions and a lot of decisions that need to be made. Lockwood encourages, “When it's this personal, when it matters most, choose local. Choose our city's only local family-owned funeral home. Choose Windsor Chapel.”
