Baseball diamonds sit empty and unused at Mic Mac Park on Sunday. Recreational facilities remain closed due to the provincial government's restrictions.

Instead of opening the fuel docks and boat ramp at Lakeview Park Marina as planned Saturday, city staff placed large barrier blocks across the launch, signalling their closure under the latest government-ordered restrictions.

“The City of Windsor is acting as quickly as possible to action the latest provincial orders, which took effect at 12:01 this morning, Saturday April 17, 2021,” a media release said.

Premier Doug Ford announced further restrictions Friday in an effort to slow the latest surge of COVID -19. They included the closure of golf courses, playgrounds, tennis courts and other outdoor recreational facilities. Ford reversed his decision regarding playgrounds Saturday afternoon.

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens expressed his support for the new measures in a media release.

“The modelling data released by the Province of Ontario paints a very dire picture,” Dilkens said. “The entire goal of these public-health measures is to help lower COVID -19 case counts and save lives. I strongly urge all residents to take this seriously and follow public health recommendations.”

The boat launch in Mckee Park and the small craft launches at Shanfield Shores and Stop 26 remain open, but the city's marina is not allowed to operate under the most recent regulations.

These latest changes are expected to continue until the expiration of the provincial orders, May 20.

Roseland Golf and Curling Club and Little River Golf Club are closed, as are all golf courses across the province.

Amenities found in parks throughout Windsor, including; sports fields, picnic shelters and gazebos, basketball and tennis courts, skate parks and exercise equipment are closed.

Parks staff spent Saturday posting signage as a reminder of the provincial government orders.

Trails and parks remain open for physically distanced activities such as walking, to promote physical fitness and mental health.

The city is still allowing small marriage ceremonies with a maximum of 10 people present. More information is available at www. citywindsor.ca.

The city is also offering a variety of online programming for youth, including the “home alone” program for those eight to 12 years, the learn to babysit for 12 and up and dance classes for all ages. Virtual tutoring is also available. Programs start Monday and participants must register in advance.
