Four-storey condo complex in Southwood Lakes gets nod

A large four-storey condominium complex on the edge of the Southwood Lakes subdivision in South Windsor was given approval to proceed Monday by city council despite some opposition from nearby homeowners.

The proposed residential structure will include 53 units at North Talbot Road and Sixth Concession.

Several neighbours appeared as delegations at Monday's meeting, voicing concerns about the size of the structure, drainage from the site, added traffic and an invasion of their privacy.

The property has long been vacant and area neighbours expected it would some day be developed either as a shopping plaza or residential structure, but they requested council at least downsize the proposal in size and height to three storeys.

But several councillors noted the proposal was not out of line with others approved elsewhere in residential areas across the city and made reference to the current heightened demand for more residential units in Windsor.

Council approved the plan in a 8-3 vote with Mayor Drew Dilkens, Coun. Fred Francis and Coun. Kieran Mckenzie voting in opposition.
