Sand Point Beach closed, others unsafe with high bacteria levels

Sand Point Beach is closed and three other Essex County beaches have been deemed unsafe for swimming due to high bacteria levels in the water.

Along with closing Sand Point, the health officials issued a “warning” for Belle River Beach, and Mettawas Beach and Cedar Beach in Kingsville.

Bacteria levels at all of the beaches could pose a health risk, they said. The health unit does water testing at nine public beaches at least once a week from June to September to check E. coli counts.
