Santa Claus back in town for parade

- KATHLEEN SAYLORS ksaylors@postmedia.com

What's December without an appearance by jolly Old St. Nick?

The 53rd annual Windsor Santa Claus parade is happening Saturday, starting at 5:45 p.m.

Running along the Wyandotte Street East Canada Day parade route, west from Devonshire Road to Aylmer Avenue, there will be bands and other entertainment, floats, parade entries from local businesses and an appearance by Mr. and Mrs. Claus and reindeer.

The parade is presented by the Wyandotte Town Centre BIA. Last year, due to COVID-19, a drive-thru format was organized at St. Clair College.

New this year, the Windsor Parade Corp. is unveiling its Island of Misfit Toys float featuring some classic characters like Charlie in the Box. The float is dedicated to longtime volunteer Clayton Massender, who died last year.

This is the second of three planned parade corporation events this holiday season. Amherstburg hosted Santa Claus in its parade last week, and residents can catch the Essex BIA parade next week.
