Walkerville Brewery picks up national awards
Walkerville Brewery clinched two silver medals over the weekend at the 2022 Canadian Brewing Awards.
The Windsor brewery won silver in the English-style pale ale category for its Geronimo IPA, and in the imperial stout category for its Russian Imperial. The 2022 awards mark the third medal for Geronimo IPA and second for the Russian Imperial.
“Another great result for Walkerville Brewery,” said Ian Gourlay, a partner at the brewery. “We are obviously very proud of these awards and the fantastic work of our brewing staff in winning them.”
Sons of Kent Brewing Co. from Chatham also won gold in the wheat beer — German style (weiss) category for its Banana Hammock.
The 20th annual Canadian Brewing Awards and conference ran May 12 to 14 in Calgary. The awards part of the program, a national competition for any size of brewery manufacturing beer in Canada, took place Saturday.
Submissions in 58 style categories came from across the country. Judges did blind taste tests to choose the best in each category.
“A Canadian Brewing Award medal is a widely recognized symbol of Canadian brewing excellence,” it says on the awards website.
Walkerville Brewery's Geronimo IPA is a regular contender at the national awards. The beer won silver in 2020 and bronze in 2019, according to the brewery. The Russian Imperial won silver in 2018.
“Our congratulations also go to all the other award winners from across Canada for the great beer they brew,” Walkerville said in a media release.
“We are truly honoured to be among them.”
