Excellent eye care much appreciated

-

I recently experienced a detached retina in my good eye — the other repaired by a corneal transplant 26 years ago which has warped at the edges over time.

At that time, my transplant was in London. We did not have a local retinal specialist physician at that time. I was cared for here by Dr. Robin Deans, a very kind and skilled physician, and Dr. C. Tokarewicz in London, also kind and skilled.

During this recent event, I wanted to pass on what wonderful care I received in Windsor by Dr. Fouad Tayfour and Dr. Deepa Yoganathan.

These two highly skilled ophthalmologists could not have done more or been more caring in saving my eye. Dr. Tayfour saw me first as Dr. Yoganathon was in surgery and then she performed the reattachment at 4 p.m. the same day.

In the days to follow, I saw both doctors frequently. That led to Dr. Tayfour performing an emergency surgery on Good Friday to reduce the pressure in my eye.

I experienced world-class care locally thanks to these two wonderful ophthalmologists. These two could have gone anywhere — being highly trained prior to arriving — but chose Windsor.

Their office has a large support staff, also very professional and caring despite being a very busy office.

I did my nurse's training years ago at Toronto General Hospital which is a large teaching hospital with many skilled physicians. Yet, I felt care I received locally was second to none.

I would hope the new hospital will give such medical stars the facilities to support them, while also encouraging other talented physicians and surgeons to come to Windsor — especially now that we also have a medical school located here.
