Ravens in fine form on the road

After claiming a forfeit win to start the season, the defending Ontario Summer Football League champion Essex Ravens were ready to roll on Saturday.

The Ravens posted a 39-0 victory on the road over the Etobicoke Eagles in Under-18 division play. Quarterbac­k Nick Dimovski completed 7-of-8 passes for 100 yards and three touchdowns with Keyanni Elliott, Malachi Jackson and Dominic Mckesey pulling in scoring passes. Amr Alami ran seven times for 60 yards and a touchdown. Finn Caplin forced a fumble that was scooped up by Nick Baeini and carried in for another score. Matteo Trifon converted all five touchdowns. The Eagles conceded a pair of safeties.

CLIPPERS EARN SPLIT

The Windsor Clippers split a pair of road games in the Ontario Lacrosse Associatio­n Junior B League. Windsor rebounded for a 10-3 win in Welland over the Generals on Sunday after dropping a tough 9-8 overtime decision in St. Catharines to the Athletics on Saturday. On Sunday, Niko Spewock had three goals and six points and Connor Mcmanus also scored three goals for the Clippers (8-40). Mitch Crosato added a pair of goals against the Generals (0-120). Grady Holmes had a goal and finished with eight points with Callum Brennan adding the other goal. On Saturday, the Clippers rallied from a four-goal deficit to force overtime, but could not complete the comeback. Holmes had five goals and seven points against the Athletics (9-2-0). Mcmanus finished with a pair of goals and Crosato had the other while Brennan finished with four assists.

HANLEY LIFTS TECUMSEH

Teagan Hanley scored in the 87th minute to lift Tecumseh SC to a 3-2 win over the Oakville Blue Devils in League1 Ontario women's premier division play. Aaliyah Faddoul and Michaela Marenchin scored to give Tecumseh (3-2-2) a 2-0 lead at the half, but Oakville (24-0) rallied to tie it before Hanley netted the winner.

GOLF CHAMPIONSH­IP

Ten players with local ties are set to compete at the Golf Canada university/college championsh­ip, which will run Tuesday through Friday at Firerock Golf Club in Komoka. The University of Windsor Lancers team of Hannah Prieur, Vanessa Ardovini, Kennedy Fremlin and Marie Carunungan, who won team bronze at last year's OUA championsh­ip, will compete in the women's division along with the St. Clair Saints' Shannon Coffey, who was fifth at the CCAA championsh­ip this past season. Nicholas Tanovich, who was seventh individual­ly at last year's OUA championsh­ip, will compete in the men's division along with teammates Thomas Byrne, Steven Hill, Andrew Pillon and Jarrod Smith

MAURO EARNS HONOUR

St. Joseph high school product and University of Detroit Mercy Titans golfer Alek Mauro was named to the College Sports Communicat­ors academic all-district men's at-large team. Mauro, who is a junior and holds a 3.78 grade point average in mathematic­s, started all 11 tournament­s this season for the Titans and posted a career-low 73.9 average, the 10th lowest mark in school history. He had six finishes in the top 10 and five in the top 5 while securing a pair of second-place finishes along the way. Mauro finished 10th at the Horizon League championsh­ip to become the school's first players to accomplish that feat since 2017.

KASCHALK TOP ROOKIE

Windsor's Patrick Kaschalk was named the Albany Firewolves' rookie of the year. A Windsor Clippers product, the 25-yearold Kaschalk was Albany's firstround pick in the 2021 National Lacrosse League draft. A defender, Kaschalk finished with a goal and eight points in 18 games to earn the team's Pup Award for outstandin­g rookie player.
