A 3D -printed handgun was among multiple firearms — including a shotgun and rifles — seized during an investigation by several police agencies into an alleged gun smuggling operation in Windsor.

The OPP Provincial Weapons Unit, Windsor police drugs and guns unit, and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) were all involved in the investigation launched this month.

“The Canada Border Services Agency is committed to detecting and intercepting prohibited firearms and firearm parts before they enter Canada,” Joshua Newby, director of intelligence and enforcement operations for the CBSA'S Southern Ontario Region, said in a media release Thursday.

“The enforcement action announced today is a great example of how border services officers work together with local law enforcement partners to keep Canadians safe.”

Windsor police said that around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers arrested one suspect in the 6600 block of Concession Rd. 6 in Amherstburg. After that, investigators executed a search warrant at a residence in the 1000 block of Martin Lane in Lasalle.

Police said they seized a laptop and storage devices, a 12-gauge shotgun, a .22-calibre rifle, a .22-calibre long rifle, a Jaguar crossbow, multiple rounds of various ammunition, a replica Glock pellet pistol, and two .22-calibre handgun magazines. Investigators said they also seized a 3D printer and a Glock-style 3D -printed handgun that was loaded.

A 25-year-old man is charged with manufacturing firearms, possession of a loaded regulation firearm, unsafe storage of a firearm, and three counts of possession of a restricted firearm without a licence.
