Express launching protest after controversial loss

The Windsor Express walked off the court and the Sudbury Five walked away with the win.

The Express were convinced a three-point shot by Sudbury's Duane Notice came after the buzzer during Thursday's road game, but officials ruled the basket good.

That tied the game at 112-112 and Windsor players, coaches and officials had left the court and did not return from the dressing room.

Officials handed Windsor a technical foul, but Notice missed the shot leaving the game knotted and up to Basketball Super League officials to decide. On Friday, the league awarded the Five a 113-112 victory.

However, the Express plan to protest the game and ask the league to conduct a review.

“It's a process for a review and protest and we're going to do that and look at it closer,” said Express president and CEO Dartis Willis, who did not know how long that process could take.

For the game, Latin Davis had 25 points to lead the Express (5-5). Tyler Groce finished with 19 points against the Five (8-5). Calvin Blaydes finished with 17 points for Windsor along with Chris Jones, who had 10 rebounds, while Paul Harrison added 11 points and 11 rebounds and Willie Atwood chipped in with 11 points.
