New training program to address shortage of workers in digital economy

- DAVE WADDELL

The Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) has announced the launch of the Beyond the Cloud: Powering Next-generation Canadian Digital Infrastructure program aimed at addressing the growing shortage of skilled workers needed for Canada's digital economy.

The program will provide industry-relevant and personalized upskill training for in-demand digital infrastructure roles for the 500 people selected for the program from across Canada.

“In an era where technological advancements are reshaping industries, upskilling talent for cloud services is not just a strategic move but a necessity for Canadian businesses to stay competitive in the global market,” said ICTC Ceo/president Namir Anani.

“We are delighted to partner with Upskill Canada on this initiative to empower Canadian professionals with the skills required for navigating the cloud landscape, fostering innovation, driving economic growth, while gaining new employment prospects.”

Upskill Canada is a national talent platform that helps fast-growing companies access talent with a particular focus on small- and medium-sized businesses. The Ministry of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada has chosen Palette Skills to run the Upskill Canada initiative.

Training will be offered for roles such as cloud engineers, cloud architects, cloud administrators, Devops, back-end Developers, network administrators and database administrators.

The program will consist of three mandatory technical skills courses, soft skills training, a work-integrated learning project, optional technical and soft skills courses and job search support.

The first training course begins March 1 and runs through May 30.

The second cohort is scheduled for June 1 to August 30 with the final session will be held Sept. 1 to November 30.
