Express land high-scoring Millinghau­s in a guard swap with the Lightning

The Windsor Express picked up the London Lightning 's leading scorer in a Basketball Super League swap of guards.

The Express traded 32-year-old guard Chris Jones to the Lightning for 30-year-old point guard Shadell Millinghau­s.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Millinghau­s was leading the Lightning in scoring with 19.9 points per game coming mostly off the bench. The 6-foot-2, 206-pound Millinghau­s was also leading the team in rebounding with an average of 8.7 per game along with 3.1 assists and 1.8 steals per game.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Jones had been Windsor's first player off the bench for much of this season and was averaging 17.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

Jones first played for the Express for two seasons in 2018-19 and 2019-20. He moved on to play with London the past two seasons before rejoining the Express this season.

VIPERS ON ROLL

The Lasalle Vipers seem to be back on track.

The Vipers have now won three games in a row after Wednesday's 8-2 victory over the Komoka Kings in Western Conference play in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.

Nicholas Graniero had two goals and two assists for the fourth-place Vipers (30-15-1-0), who moved to within two points of third-place Strathroy and four points of second-place St. Marys.

Patrick Mcmanus also had two goals against the eighth-place Kings (8-39-0-0), with Lee Knight, Kyle Greene, Nathan Gaymes and Gage Evans adding single goals.

SAINTS BASKETBALL HONOURED

The St. Clair Saints women's basketball team received plenty of award recognitio­n from the OCAA for this season's regular season performanc­e.

Fifth-year guard Kaitlyn Overeem became the seventh player in school history to earn all-canadian status. Overeem was also the fifth player in school history to lead the West Division in scoring after averaging 20.9 points per game this season and was second in the conference with 5.3 assists per game. She was also named a West Division first-team all-star.

Ania Buklarewic­z was named the OCAA rookie of the year. She was ninth in triples made with 27 and had a conversion rate of 31.7 per cent while averaging 9.8 points per game. She was also named to the West Division all-rookie team.

In his 10th season, head coach Andy Kiss won his first OCAA coach of the year award. He guided the Saints to a 13-3 record, a six-game improvemen­t over last season.

LANCERS ELIMINATED

The Windsor Lancers women's basketball team bowed out of the OUA playoffs on Wednesday.

The Lancers fell behind by 12 points at the half and lost 74-50 in Guelph against the Gryphons.

Maggie Denys paced the Lancers with 15 points, while Reine Ndome finished with 11 points.
