Caesars Windsor Cares has donated $10,000 to the Windsor Symphony Orchestra's Music for Health program.

The program sees the Windsor Symphony Orchestra sending its quartet into long-term care facilities, retirement homes, and hospitals to support the health and well-being of the region's seniors.

During the performances, residents have the chance to request songs they like or that have special meaning for them.

“Having residents choose the music from a list engages them in the concert at a higher level, even stimulates conversations about the music and residents' memories they have with music,” said Becky Ng, manager of education and outreach for the WSO.

The WSO announced the $10,000 donation last Wednesday before a Music for Health performance at Chartwell Royal Marquis Retirement Residence in Windsor.

“Caesars Windsor is proud to be a longtime supporter of the creative spirit of our region,” said Kevin Laforet, president of Caesars Windsor. “We are excited to be a partner with Windsor Symphony Orchestra in maintaining our culturally rich city with a donation to the Music for Health program.”

The WSO said the Music for Health program is based on evidence showing the positive impact that music has on mental, emotional, and physical health.

It is part of several Windsor Symphony Orchestra outreach programs.

Symphony members also do performances in local schools. Earlier this month, Maestro Robert Franz visited several high school band and choir classes to work with students as part of the school board curriculum.

The symphony also regularly puts on performances in neighbourhoods, community gathering spaces, and social services agencies.
