St. Clair fashion students to display designs at annual show
Fashion students at St. Clair College will showcase their talents on the catwalk for the 10th anniversary Atelier Fashion Show on Saturday.
Fashion design professor Elaine Chatwood said the show offers a variety of opportunities for students.
“This event aims to not only showcase student collections for their portfolios but also provides experiential learning opportunities and serves as a fundraiser for the student's Fashion Design Club,” Chatwood said. “It facilitates networking with industry professionals, VIP judges and potential employers, as students have secured employment directly from previous shows.”
The show serves as a platform to display students' skills, the college said in a release.
“This event promises to be an inspiring platform for our fashion design students to unveil their final projects, showcasing the culmination of their creativity and innovation nurtured throughout the academic year.”
The show features graduate collections from second-year students and the return of the first- and second-place designers from the 2023 event.
“While this event stands as the pinnacle project for the Fashion Design students, it also represents a cohesive effort across multiple disciplines including Graphic Design, Hairstyling, Esthetician, Culinary, Robotics, Marketing, and Media Convergence,” the college said.
To recognize the 10th anniversary of the show, graduates can participate in the Decade of Design exhibit, which will feature static presentations of their finest designs alongside past fashion-show posters.
Several awards will be presented during the show, including the Télio Impact Award for sustainability efforts and three scholarship prizes.
Judges include Molly Wang, senior designer at Shinola, and Anita Osasona, owner and designer at Delanie's.
Prizes will be awarded at the end of the show to the first-, secondand third-place winning collections.
The show gets underway at 8 p.m. at the Student Life Centre at 200 Talbot Road West on the main campus. Proceeds from ticket sales benefit the Fashion Design Club for field trips for the students.
