BMW to bring '25 M5 Touring to Canada
Wagon fans rejoice: Not only is BMW giving us an all-new version of the M5 sedan later this year, but along with it, Canada will also get its first 2025 BMW M5 Touring. While full details — and an uncamouflaged version of the car — have not yet been revealed, BMW said it will feature a hybrid drivetrain as “BMW M is continuing its path to electrification.”
That gas-electric drivetrain will be “closely related” to the one in the BMW M Hybrid V8 GTP race car, which uses a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 that makes 640 horsepower on its own and 671 ponies when its electric motor joins in the fray. Naturally, the new M5 Touring will also have “precisely tuned chassis technology” to “facilitate driving dynamics and agility at a level unique in its class,” as goes BMW'S fancy prose.
The BMW 5 Series overall moves into its eighth generation for 2024.
It's launching here initially with the 530i xdrive. Also coming are the all-electric 2025 BMW i5 xdrive40 and the 550e xdrive plug-in hybrid (PHEV).
So why are we going to be getting the long-roof version of the M5? BMW Canada says it's because we asked for it. Earlier this year, it launched an online campaign to get a “yes or no” from the public, and got an affirmative reply from 7,200 people.
The new wagon is still undergoing testing in Germany and the U.S., and production will begin in the fourth quarter of 2024. Canadian pricing is still in the future.
