World premieres, special guests, and a celebration of the first film ever shown at the downtown Capitol Theatre are all on the roster of the Windsor Symphony Orchestra's upcoming season.

The WSO unveiled plans for its 2024-2025 season on Tuesday. For one of its most popular events, the Onstage/café Concert Series, the symphony has added an additional performance.

There will now be five concerts in the series, which puts audience members onstage with musicians to enjoy drinks and bites along with the music. The concerts this season will include works from Bach, Strauss, Coleridge-taylor, Shubert, and Mozart.

The WSO season will open Sept. 21 with Béla Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra, which is part of the Bill and Rochelle Tepperman Masterworks program.

The masterworks series also includes Beethoven's Symphony No. 7, a steam-punk version of the Legend of Orpheus, composer Malek Jandali's Symphony No. 5 in a Syrian World Premiere.

The Toldo Pops Series will open with a nod to the Golden Age of Film. The WSO and Windsor International Film Festival will team up to showcase Buster Keaton's One Week, the first film shown in 1920 at the Capitol Theatre, the symphony's current home.

Guest conductor Daniel Bartholomew-poyser is also back with Bhangra and Beyond, highlighting rhythm and dance inspired by South Asia.

The annual favourite Holiday Pops also returns, while the Broadway Bunch will perform tunes such as Sunday in the Park with George and The Little Mermaid, and Sarah Slean will offer The Music of Joni Mitchell.

The holiday tradition Handel's Messiah will be on the program for four nights in Windsor, Tecumseh and Leamington. Another annual favourite, WSO Rocks!, is also returning. This year, Jeans `n' Classics will perform The Music of ABBA at the Chrysler Theatre.

Concert packages and renewals are available now. Single tickets for all WSO performances will be released in August.
