Canadiens rally to take PJHL playoff series lead

Trevor Larue played the overtime hero for the Lakeshore Canadiens as he scored at 5:42 in OT, capping a rally for a 3-2 road win over the New Hamburg Firebirds on Tuesday.

The Canadiens hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven Provincial Junior Hockey League semifinal series. The series shifts back to Lakeshore on Friday for Game 2.

Ethan Galvan's goal had the Canadiens up 1-0 after the opening period and Lakeshore held that lead until the latter stages of the third period.

However, the Firebirds scored a pair of goals 91 seconds apart to take a 2-1 lead with less than four minutes left in regulation.

Matteo Frattaroli's first playoff goal would get the Canadiens to overtime where Larue produced the winner.

Goalie Boe Piroski was solid in the Lakeshore net with 30 saves while Josh Cyrenne chipped in with a pair of assists.

MUSTANGS TAKE SWOSSAA BADMINTON TEAM TITLE

The Massey Mustangs captured four of five divisions contested and easily went on to claim the overall team title at the SWOSSAA senior badminton championsh­ips in Sarnia.

Even Duan beat teammate Samuel Yu to capture the boys' singles division. Massey's Efan Duan took the senior girls' singles division with Lajeunesse's Danielle Monforton earning the bronze medal.

Massey's Hansen Zhang and Jesse Meng teamed to beat Vista Academy's Kayden Chung and Benson Zhang to take the senior boys' doubles title. Massey's Noah Lam and Tarun Govindaraj­an claimed the bronze medal.

The Massey duo of Alice Chen and Summer Lu beat Kingsville's Mady Stanley and Natalie Mann to capture the senior girls' doubles title.
