Put patients first

Winnipeg Free Press - - YOUR SAY -

Emergency Medical Service was established to look after patients in emergency situations, but also when they are unable to assist themselves.

Its mandate was to provide patient assessment, patient stabilization and patient transport to a medical facility for ongoing medical treatment and care. It is a vital part of the patient health care chain.

This mandate cannot be provided solely by the fire department rushing to the scene first and clarifying that yes, there is a patient. Then having the fire paramedic chief state that we no longer need the 350 paramedics. Have the chief and the city forgotten about the patient?
