A pho­to­graph of a dried poppy taken in 1918 from the Flan­ders re­gion of Bel­gium. The poppy is on loan to the Man­i­toba Mu­seum from the Royal Win­nipeg Ri­fles Mu­seum and Ar­chives. Pop­pies were im­mor­tal­ized in Lt.Col. John McCrae’s poem In Flan­ders Fields, which was writ­ten in 1915 from the bat­tle­front in Ypres, Bel­gium.
