A five-year-old Iowa boy’s quirky spirit was cap­tured per­fectly in the heart­break­ing obit­u­ary he helped write be­fore his un­timely death ear­lier this month.

Gar­rett Matthias was di­ag­nosed with a rare form of cancer that at­tacks the tem­po­ral bone, cra­nial nerve and in­ner ear in Septem­ber.

The young­ster’s death was an­nounced in an obit­u­ary in the Des Moines Reg­is­ter with the sign off, “See ya later, suckas! — The Great Gar­rett Un­der­pants.”

Ac­cord­ing to the pa­per, Gar­rett’s par­ents, Em­i­lie and Ryan, be­gan writ­ing down com­ments the boy would make dur­ing his treat­ment.

“We re­ally tried to use his words,” Em­i­lie told the Reg­is­ter. “Gar­rett was a very unique in­di­vid­ual.”
