Re: May tells the truth on climate change, Lorrie Goldstein column, Jan. 3.

Elizabeth May may be the only Canadian federal leader telling the truth on climate change issues. However, her proposed policies are more than scary and would, if she ever got the chance to implement them, destroy Canada’s economy and any hope for a positive future. When are the lefties and eco-wing nuts like May going to realize that Canada is a country that experiences winter (fairly often!) with cold temperatures, which makes us extremely dependent on fossil fuels to survive? What PM Trudeau and his incompetent government are doing to damage Alberta’s oilpatch is beyond comprehension. For Canada to flourish and have any kind of a positive future requires pipelines to be constructed as soon as possible. However, unfortunately I don’t believe that Trudeau and Mckenna have any intentions of doing anything to assist our fossil fuel industry. Their bottom line is to destroy any hope of future oilsands development by making it so difficult with red tape and restrictions that it ensures that there is very little hope for private companies to gain approval for the construction of pipelines. A change of government to some common sense is required!

LINDSAY HEPBURN Canadians will get to set the priorities in this year’s federal election.
